Knoxville's America Recycles Day Celebration, Nov. 14 in Downtown Knoxville

Knoxville's America Recycles Day celebration will take place tomorrow on Friday, November 14 from 11am-2pm on Market Sqaure in downtown Knoxville.

America Recycles Day occurs annually on a national basis with the goal of enhancing public awareness about the importance of recycling as well as providing information about local recycling opportunities.

The participating organizations for this event-- Knoxville Recycling Coalition, AlcoaCity of Knoxville, Knox County, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, University of Tennessee, Waste Connections, and Green Mountain Coffee-- will provide helpful information about ways people can start recycling in their daily lives, how each organization plays a part in community recycling, and why it's worthwhile to squeeze recycling into your busy lifestyles.

At this year's event you will have the opportunity to receive a recycling bin upon signing a pledge card to signify your commitment to increase recycling habits at home and work.  Compost bins and rain barrels will be given away to a few lucky winners.  And, there will be loads of information on how YOU can get started recycling!

For more information, call the Knoxville Recycling Coalition at 865-525-9694.

Dunkin' Donuts Opens First "Green" Store

Last month the national restaurant chain Dunkin' Donuts celebrated the grand opening of its first ever "green" store in St. Petersburg, Florida.  The building of this particular store is certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program and has also incorporated other "green" elements such as the recycling of coffee grounds and paper products through worm composting.  The store will also promote reusable mugs, paper cups made from renewable resources, green cleaning products, and donating leftover food to a local food bank.
